The big screen adaptation of Rick Yancey's bestselling apocalyptic sf saga will bring aliens to the theatres January 22nd!

THE STORY

Four waves (the first took electricity down, the second was massive tsunamis, the third a deadly bird virus,  the fourth - killing of the remaining humans) of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth decimated and knocked humankind back to the Stone Age. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, as one of Earth's last human survivors, Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. Big screen adaptations for you today, starting with 20th Century Fox who has bought the rights on Kazu Kibuishi's AMULET graphic novels with the plan to turn it into a possible new movie franchise! Voted best YA book a few years ago and sold in 2 million copies so far, it follows a young girl named Emily, her younger brother Navin, and their mother Karen as they move to their great grandfather’s house to start a new life. The house proves to contain a dangerous portal, and after a creature pulls Karen through it, the kids set out to save her in an alternate world inhabited by demons, giant robots, elves and highly intelligent animals.

 MARI LU'S 'YOUNG ELITES'

GETS MOVIE ADAPTATION

Another mega popular young adult saga to get a movie adaptation is also Mari Lu's fantasy series THE YOUNG ELITES which your dearest spy has just finished translating today for the readers in his country. As 'The Hollywood Reporter' wrote, 20th Century Fox and the studio behind MAZE RUNNER movies will work on this one as well. Planned as a trilogy, the saga has recently published second part THE ROSE SOCIETY. Lu's previous saga LEGEND has also been sold for an adaptation! 

Set in a medieval fantasy world, the story centres on the survivors of a deadly plague called the blood fever. Many of the teens that survive have been physically transformed and discover that they've acquired special powers. This secret group of gifted teens is called THE YOUNG ELITES, and their lives are threatened by a group called the Inquisition Axis, which is seeking to destroy them. The protagonist is Adelina Amouteru, who, post plague, has silver hair and only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. When a secret society that strives to protect THE YOUNG ELITES finds Adelina, it discovers she has powers like they’ve never seen before.

Female stars news, today,  people: beside the news of Sandra Bullock possibly leading an all female version of OCEAN'S ELEVEN, there's yet another movie adaptation to announce: as 'The Hollywood Reporter' writes today, Jennifer Aniston will lead the cast in the movie version of Liane Moriarty's WHAT ALICE FORGOT bestselling book over at TriStar. She is set to play Alice, a 40-year-old who suffers head trauma at the gym and awakens believing that she is still 25 and that her life is far better than it actually is. She thinks she's 25, in love with her husband and her career and pregnant with her first child, but instead she's a mother of three who is about to get divorced and her life's different.

TO BECOME 'SILENT WIFE'    
Meanwhile, another Hollywood lady, Nicole Kidman is said to have taken the lead role in Adrian Lyne's new movie SILENT WIFE, his first one after 2002's UNFAITHFUL with Diane Lane! Again, it will be a big screen adaptation of a book, this time of based on the bestselling 2013 A.S.A. Harrison novel of the same name, in which, as 'Deadline' reports, the story revolves around a husband who starts an affair with the early 20ish daughter of his best friend. That’s dangerous enough, but the least of his worries. His wife (Kidman) discovers the affair, and plots his murder.

We're all about freshly announced book adaptations, my bookworms! Starting with ABC and Shonda Rhimes who have nabbed the adaptation rights for Melinda Taub's STILL STAR CROSSED novel! To be produced by SCANDAL's Heather Mitchell, it is set in 16th century Verona after the events in William Shakespeare’s tragedy, following the conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues in the wake of Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. In the book, to end the family feud, Prince Escalus orders the most eligible Montague bachelor, Benvolio, Romeo’s best friend, to marry Juliet’s older cousin, Capulet maid Rosaline, the girl Romeo first loved.

 'QUEEN OF HEARTS' 

TO BE ADAPTED AT UNIVERSAL

Universal has, on the other hand, bought Colleen Oakes YA book series QUEEN OF HEARTS which will be turned into a movie by MAZE RUNNER's scribe Grant Pierce Myers! Two novels have already been published with the third one out at Harper Collins in 2018!  The plot reimagines the young Queen of Hearts from Lewis Carroll’s famed ALICE IN WONDERLAND fairytale, when she was merely princess of Wonderland Palace. A host of other characters from Alice show up, and the future Knave of Hearts is the love of her young life.

 'JENNA FOX CHRONICLES'

Dystopia will also rule in the movie adaptation of Mary E. Pearson's sf YA trilogy JENNA FOX CHRONICLES! The script based on the first book THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX is already finished! Set in the near future, a time of antibiotic resistant bacterial diseases and devastating natural disasters, the series follows Jenna Fox, a teenager who wakes from a year long coma with no memory of what happened to her or who she is. As she struggles to remember her life, she discovers strange inconsistencies and experiences increasingly troubled interactions with the people who knew her, learning that the answers may have severe consequences for her, her family and friends, and society at large.

 'FORTUNATELY, THE MILK'

Meanwhile Edgar Wright will direct and Johnny Depp might star in the live action animation movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's FORTUNATELY, THE MILK a tale of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by a father taking care of his children while his wife is away. Despite Mom's advance warning, the family finds itself ready for breakfast but without milk for cereal and tea, so Dad takes a trip to the store to get some. Upon his long-awaited return, he gives the children a fantastical and descriptive explanation of the adventures he faced while trying to make it back home. Not only did he embark on a time traveling hot-air balloon ride with a stegosaurus, but he also confronted pirates, aliens, wumpires, and a volcano god, never losing possession of the milk.

There have been a number of adaptations announced, beginning with Clive Barker's WEAVEWORLD which is to be turned into a CW TV series! The story will follow an app designer who teams up with a young pastry chef who has just discovered that she is destined to be guardian of a mythological realm that can be accessed through a portal in an old Savannah mansion. Together, they fight an epic battle with evil forces who are vying for control of the magical world.

WONDER -LING

Fox 2000 is to make Mira Bartok's partial futuristic YA book manuscript THE WONDERLING into a Stephen Daldry movie! The book which is yet to be shopped to publishers follows a half human half fox who, with a half human half bird journeys from an orphanage to the city to save music.

'THE MAN WHO SOLD THE MOON'

NEW HEINLEIN'S ADAPTATION
Meanwhile, Allen Bein is to turn Robert Heinlein's science fiction classic THE MAN WHO SOLD THE MOON into television series as well about a businessman possessed by a dream to take humanity off Earth. As a young entrepreneur, he starts a private space company to colonize the moon and create the home he never had. He is driven to the brink while single-handedly ushering the entire human race to its next evolutionary step.

FREDERIK POHL'S GATEAWAY

 TO BECOME SYFY TV SERIES

And SyFy will make a TV series out of Frederik Pohl's novel GATEWAY in which humanity discovers an asteroid teeming with the long abandoned spaceships of an advanced alien race setting in motion a gold rush for alien artefacts and technology. The ships are pre-programmed, transporting their voyagers to distant worlds of riches or certain death. Undaunted by the peril or the odds, prospector Robinette Broadhead gambles everything on a journey to GATEWAY. After one nightmare mission, he returns to extraordinary wealth and luxury, but is haunted by the loss of his crewmates, including the love of his life.

A new historical movie for you and it already has a cast, a stellar one! As 'Deadline' reports Christina Hendricks, Emily Watson, Max Riemelt and Abbie Cornish have all joined WW1 drama THE ANGEL MAKERS! Jon Amiel is to direct the story, set in the Yorkshire Moors in 1917. Survival is key when the men leave to join the allied fight in France, leaving their wives to maintain the farms. At their disposal, an internment camp of German POWs, all too happy to offer up their services, ignite an air of dangerous romance. Affairs begin and lust blossoms into love as the women of Yorkshire Moors discover something far more powerful: independence. When the husbands return, everyone turns to Sarah Rigg (Christina Hendricks), the midwife and witch doctor at the heart of the village, to mix the potions that can save a life… or take it away.

NEW BOOK ADAPTATIONS

'ANIMORPHS' GETS A MOVIE  
Now, here's an interesting movie adaptation: Universal is planning on turning K.A. Applegate's bestselling series of novels ANIMORPHS into a movie! More than 50 novels in the series revolve around young people who come across a crashed alien spaceship. The dying alien gives them powers to transform into any animal they want. Using those powers the teenagers then fight against other aliens who have secretly invaded the planet disguised as humans. These books were previously adapted into a two season series over at Nickelodeon.
'ROADSIDE PICNIC' TV SERIES
Another adaptation, but this time a small screen one will be for beloved Russian sf novel ROADSIDE PICNIC from Arkady and Boris Strugatsky which is to be turned into TV series at WGN America! GAME OF THRONES director Alan Taylor is helming the story about an alien visitation to planet Earth, whose aftermath has led to the creation of “Zones” in the areas where the aliens had possibly landed. Such zones exhibit strange and dangerous phenomena not understood by humans, and contain artefacts with inexplicable, seemingly supernatural properties!

YOUTUBE STAR CHESTER SEE

IS 'OVER THE TOP' AT ABC FAMILY

You Tube star Chester See will produce and star in his own dramedy series at ABC Family titled OVER THE TOP! 'Deadline' reports that it will be based on his real-life experiences following a struggling artist trying to make a name for himself in the L.A. music scene. After a record deal fizzles and his hopes of stardom fall apart, he takes to YouTube and starts building a massive audience. The series documents the trials, tribulations and triumphs of becoming a digital star. At the end of every episode, See or one of his co-stars, including other YouTubers with their own followings, will record a song which can immediately be found on Facebook or YouTube.
